• The subjunctive is used mainly in
multiple clause sentences.
– 1st clause = main clause
• must have a subject and a verb
– 2nd clause = subordinate clause
• must have a subject and a verb
• If the main clause expresses will,
influence, emotion, doubt, or denial
then…
• The subordinate clause must be in the
subjunctive
How do you conjugate in the
present subjunctive?
Present subjunctive conjugations:
•Step 1: conjugate the verb into the yo form
•Step 2: drop the “o” from the yo form
•Step 3: add the opposite endings
(ar verbs=er/ir endings; er/ir verbs= ar endings)
