AATG
National German Examination
• Administered each year to nearly 22,000 high school students in the second, third and
fourth level of German.
• Provides individual diagnostic feedback, rewards students through an extensive prize
program, and creates a sense of accomplishment
• Exam results provide a means of comparing students in all regions of the country, as
well as programmatic data provided to help inform curricular decisions
•
Exam results are among the criteria used in selecting the recipients of chapter awards
and the national AATG/PAD Study Trip Awards, a four-week study trip program in
Germany.
• The 2015 Exam period will be December 1, 2014 to February 2, 2015

Farrington Contest and Awards
• Farrington Awards are given by HATFL each year in honor of Curtis Farrington, an
original founder and the first president of HATFL
• HATFL is presenting the Farrington Awards on January 31, 2015 , at Northbrook
HS, the same day of testing, to outstanding students in all languages and levels
tested.
• German: Levels I, II, III and Advanced: No Heritage Speaker may test in
these languages in any level.

Houstonfest
• Annual competition for Houston-area students in grades 8 through 12 who are learning
German
• Offers 42 contests for students in German I, II, III, IV, and V, including written and oral
tests, declamation, drama, art, and music
• Entrants placing in the top five in each event at Houstonfest advance to the Texas
State German Contest
• Houstonfest 2015 will be on February 7 at Lanier Middle School, and State will be on
February 28 at Texas State University in San Marcos (new location!).
• Registration by January 14, 2015
• Regular fee: $ 10
