We welcome public comments – they can be acknowledgement of good practices, or questions or
concerns about special education services that impact groups of children.
In compliance with the Brown act, there will be no action taken at the meeting in which a comment
is made, though there may be time for discussion. The executive committee will respond to
comments at the following CAC meeting.
Individual speakers are limited to three (3) minutes for their presentation and the total time for
public comments per meeting is 15 minutes

◦ Videotaping and posting CAC meeting on NCCSE website at

CAC Priorities Report Process

• October: district directors and CAC representatives pick one or two goals each
• April same group meets to:
• Celebrate progress on goals
• Give input for new report
• April/May new report is drafted and approved
• May/June report is presented/discussed with special education directors and
superintendents of the 14 school districts
Some accomplishments from the 20132014 school year:
Priority 1 – Academic & Social Inclusion
Accredited peer tutor class
General and special education co-teaching trainings and
support
Priority 3 – Self-Advocacy
◦ Student participation in IEPs at all levels/ages
◦ Opportunities for students to use multi-modality approaches to
share their voice at IEP meetings
◦ Showed teachers videotapes and effective organizational tools
to have students participate in their IEP meetings
◦ Showed the NCCSE CAC meeting video of students leading their
IEPs
◦ Reviewed the I’m Determined website www.imdetermined.org
