(Nouns refer to people, animals, places and things)
In Spanish-Nouns have gender: They
are either masculine or feminine
Most nouns that end in –a are
feminine (Ex. la regla)
Most nouns that end in –o are
masculine (Ex. el libro)
Some exceptions exist: el día and el agua
Some nouns can be both male and
.female (el/la deportista and el/la
estudiante)
Other nouns end in –e or a
…consonant. Some of these are
male and some are female:
(el cine, la clase, el marcador..)
Definite articles translate to the
word “the” They must agree in gender
and number with the noun they are
modifying! The books=los libros
The definite articles are
la with single female nouns (la chica)
las with plural female nouns(las chicas)
el with single male nouns (el libro)
los with plural male nouns (los libros)
Indefinite articles translate to the
word “a” or “an” and they, too,
must agree in gender in number
with the nouns they are modifying!
a girl=una chica
“un” with single male nouns-un libro
“unos” with plural male nouns-unos libros
“una” with single female nouns-una falda
“unas” with plural female nouns-unas faldas
