SOA Definition
Because Everything Should Work Together!
Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)
 SOA is a design for linking computational resources
(principally applications and data) on demand to achieve the
desired results for service consumers (which can be end
users or other services).
 Principles:
 Encapsulation – single “unit” of logic
 Composability – assemble larger collections
 Reusability – standardized building blocks

Real World Integration
Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is one of six Metropolitan (or "Category A") municipalities in South Africa.
The Challenge
 Provide a flexible integration solution alongside the implementation of the new Promis.Net Billing System.
The NMBM integration requirements spans 25 systems and the technology ranges from legacy AS400/DB2
applications to applications like Microsoft CRM 4.0
 Provide a data migration solution to migrate approximately 400 entities from the existing AS400/DB2 Billing
System to the new Windows/SQL Server based Promis.Net Billing System
 Provide a secure Billing Portal for NMBM consumers and employees to reduce telephonic account related
queries and improve customer satisfaction
 Provide reporting functionality for the Promis.Net Billing System
The Strategy
 Improve the existing NMBM integration architecture with a non-intrusive approach to minimize impact on
existing systems
 Create a web-based portal that enables consumers and employees to view current account related
information e.g. statements, payments, and consumption
 Consumers can also make online payments and update personal details
Our Solution
 iWay Service Manager, DataMigrator, WebFOCUS

 Enhanced communications to dealers, suppliers and business partners
 Full ESB solution for future proof service based integration of disparate business domains
and technologies
Our Solution
 iWay Service Manager, Education, and Professional Services.
The Results
 Global ESB solution that allows rapid
service creation across multiple back office
applications and the ability to create flexible
business flows on top.

Real World Integration
Akzo Nobel is a multi-national manufacturing corporation, active in healthcare products, coatings, and
chemicals.
The Challenge
 Internally, Akzo Nobel refers to its shared service as OneHub, which handles all electronic transactions in
the supply chain. Replace the current solution due to high cost of ownership.
The Strategy
 iWay will be the corporate platform for Akzo Nobel’s EDI/B2B messaging throughout the value chain.
WebFOCUS will provide business activity monitoring capabilities for trading partners and OneHub staff.
Our Solution
 iWay Software, WebFOCUS, and Professional Services.
The Results
 iWay was selected because of it’s extensive functionality and lowest cost of ownership.

Real World Integration
BNP Paribas is the sixth largest international banking network. It operates in more than 85 countries
and has 161,200 employees.
The Challenge
 Increase Corporate cross selling across business lines. This involves three CRMs (Siebel, PeopleSoft,
Homemade CICS-based applications) and all departments including Investment Banking, Asset
Management, and Retail
The Strategy
 Create a Service-Oriented Architecture :
 Information Access services
 CRM sync
 Notification
 Apply visibility and compliance rules
Our Solution
 iWay Service Manager, and Consulting
The Results
 Executives and operational teams benefit from a single customer view that helps them make good
decisions in a short timeframe.

The Challenge
• Integrate new acquired companies into Coty
• Global rollout of SAP, integrate other ERP’s
• Outsourcing of procurement indirect goods
• Monitoring of Business Processes
The Strategy
• iWay Service Manager and MQ as ESB
• SAP and Legacy Integration
Our Solution
• iSM, Adapters: SAP, SOAP, MQseries, FTP, Utility Bundle, JDE, Oracle

Service Enablement Components
Application System Adapters
Eliminate the need to write and maintain point-to-point interfaces between packaged applications.
Data Adapters
Provide the ability to create fast, efficient, reusable, and easily maintainable interfaces to your relational and
non-relational data sources.
Transaction Processing Adapters
Enable simple and cost-effective deployment of new applications that reuse logic and data controlled by IBM CICS and
IBM IMS/TM, as well as open systems TPMs such as Tuxedo.
Terminal Emulation Adapters
Enable simple and cost-effective deployment of new applications that reuse logic and data from existing
mainframe (3270) and iSeries (5250) applications.
Technology Adapters
Facilitate easy integration with application servers or any of the supported computer programming languages.
Touchpoint Adapters
Accept standard business documents over standard communication protocols and interact with enterprise
applications based on the business content.

Change Data Capture
Transfer changed records (inserted, updated, or deleted), improving the timeliness of information in the data
warehouse.
Information Integration
Make all sources accessed by the servers on your network appear as a set of relational tables – so crossplatform, multiple-database extractions and joins are just a mouse-click away.
Data Lineage
Track and verify the origins of data.
Data Profiling
Examine the information available in an existing data source to collect statistics and information about it.
