IT pain points
Social Media costs the UK economy up to £14 billion in lost work time; nearly
two million workers spend over an hour per day 'Facebooking' at work
– Survey by MyJobGroup.co.uk, August 2010
Research by IDC shows that up to 40% of employee Internet activity is nonwork related
Social networking sites are a hotbed for distributing malware via shared links;
Koobface is a perfect example, targeting millions of Facebook and
Twitter users
Social networking phishing attacks up by more than 240% over 2008
– MarkMonitor brandjacking report
Banning access to the Internet is not a solution
GFI WebMonitor
Real-time web monitoring, web filtering and web security made easy
and affordable!
» Different editions available – to offer network administrators a solution
for their specific web monitoring needs.
□ The WebFilter Edition provides control over what sites users can browse
□ The WebSecurity Edition protects networks from viruses, spyware, phishing
and other malware
The UnifiedProtection Edition addresses all web monitoring needs in one
package (combines the WebFilter and WebSecurity editions)
» GFI WebMonitor is also available as a dedicated plug-in for Microsoft
ISA/TMG Server
Address IT pain points with GFI WebMonitor
With GFI WebMonitor you can:
» Monitor your Internet users’ browsing habits and downloads through
granular interactive drill-down reports
» Control your Internet users’ browsing habits and downloads, boosting
employee productivity by blocking/limiting their access to millions of
non-work related sites such as adult, online gaming, personal email,
travel websites, P2P, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and many others
» Secure your infrastructure by ensuring that downloads
are free of viruses, spyware and other malware by using
multiple antivirus engines
WebFilter edition
» Control Internet resource usage through web browsing policies based on
time and bandwidth quotas
» Restrict access to sites according to category, such as adult, online
gaming, personal email, travel websites, P2P, Facebook, MySpace,
Twitter and many more, using the WebGrade database – a web-filtering
database which provides URL coverage across multiple languages and
over 260,000,000 domains
» Configure filtering policies based on user/group/IP
WebSecurity edition (1/2)
» Create multiple user/group/IP-based download control policies to control
what type of files your users can download
» Scan downloaded files with multiple antivirus engines – Norman and
BitDefender included by default, Kaspersky available as an optional third
antivirus engine
» Check all websites that users try to access against an auto-updatable
phishing database – any website found on the phishing URL list
will be blocked
» Monitor and block Live Messenger (MSN) incoming and outgoing
messages as well as file transfers through GFI WebMonitor’s IM
control policies
WebSecurity edition (2/2)
Problems with single antivirus engines?
» No single antivirus engine is always the quickest and the most
effective at reacting to ALL viruses
» No single antivirus engine is considered the best in combating every
area of malware – viruses, spyware and so on
» Multiple antivirus engines will ensure:
□ Quicker lead time from virus-to-signature – as you get updates from the first
company to react to a virus
Powerful antivirus technology – maximizing on the strengths of each
antivirus engine
UnifiedProtection edition
Combines the functionality of each edition and includes other features which
are common to all editions, such as:
» The ability to monitor or block a connection in real time
» The ability to drill down into browsing activity by users, categories,
domains and sites through interactive reports
User and site bandwidth monitoring features to track download and
upload traffic
The ability to monitor and block applications’ hidden downloads
URL/user/IP-based whitelist and blacklist

Why use GFI WebMonitor? (1/2)
» Increase productivity and reduce cyberslacking (time wasted by
employees online) through granular monitoring and management of
employee web browsing habits
» Formulate and enforce an effective Internet Usage Policy
» Maximize available bandwidth by controlling what type of sites can be
visited, setting time and bandwidth thresholds, and through proxy caching
» Protect the network from dangerous downloads in real time by managing
what type of files users can download and benefitting from multiple
antivirus engines to scan for viruses and other malware
Why use GFI WebMonitor? (2/2)
» Block socially-engineered phishing scam websites and prevent data
leakage through such sites
» Scan HTTPS-encrypted traffic for additional security
» Reduce Internet bandwidth usage by enabling caching
» Help protect against legal liability
What’s new in GFI WebMonitor 2011 R2?
Anonymization of personal data (all editions)
» This option helps comply with the law (notably in Italy and Germany)
that requires any personally identifiable information to not be easily
available and revealed only under certain circumstances (e.g.,
investigation by relevant authorities). GFI WebMonitor now allows
anonymization of personal data, which makes all personal data in
reports visible only by using the four-eye principle (which requires at
least two people to witness/approve a certain activity).
Enforcing of SafeSearch (WebFilter edition)
» SafeSearch can now be mandated on search engines. This option is
typically customizable at the user level, i.e., the user can disable it,
however, when enabling this feature, the personal option will be
overridden and the one mandated by GFI WebMonitor will be
used instead.
What’s new in GFI WebMonitor 2011?
» Improved interactive access and blocked activity monitoring reports
(all versions)
» Browsing policies based on time and bandwidth
(WebFilter edition of both versions)
» Proxy caching for improved performance and reduced bandwidth
consumption (standard version)
» HTTPS scanning for enhanced filtering and control (standard version)
“Trussbilt decided to purchase GFI products because they are designed with
the SMB in mind and the features offered an excellent fit for the company.
With GFI software installed, the company was able to ensure that email
received was free of spam and viruses while giving IT administrators full
control over the use of the Internet within the organization; thereby cutting
down on unnecessary, non work-related Internet browsing and greatly
reducing the risk that inappropriate content could be viewed on company
machines. The growing threat from infected websites and malicious
downloads was also a concern, especially for
an organization working in the security business.”
– Mark Harvey, Trussbilt
“GFI gave us the feature set that we were looking for at the greatest value
by far. It is a cost-effective solution and it has saved us operational time.”
– Mr. Laskowski, Aegisoft
