Set aside time to read everyday!
 15-30 minutes is all it takes!
 To keep track of reading, tally it on your calendar!

Visit the library
 Help your child find books (Just Right Books)
 Let their interests guide book selections

Every kind of reading counts!
 Students can read independently
 Read to your child
 Have your child read to you
 Read for real purposes
▪ Read a recipe as you bake
▪ Read the shopping list
▪ Read directions
▪ Read print when you are out and about (ex. store signs)



 If you want to challenge students, have them use a
thesaurus and learn new words to replace more
common ones.






Cook or bake together and have your child read
and measure with your guidance
Have your child make the grocery list with you
and do all the writing
Let your child count money to pay for items or
figure out how much change you will get back

