• National library
• Responsible for developing libraries as active and relevant
institutions in the Norwegian society.
• County libraries (19)
• Library development in the county; advise on library matters,
develop competence for librarians in the county, initiate and
fund projects.
• Public libraries (about 780)
• Running the libraries in the municipality. Lending books and
other media, organize events, provide reading rooms and free
internet, hold courses for the community, and much more.
• Initiate or participate in projects for developing the library.

• 25 freelance staff with diverse language expertise
• Collection of 130,000 books, CDs, DVDs in 47 languages
