“If the watchman sees the sword coming and
does not blow the trumpet to warn the people
and the sword comes and takes the life of one
of them, that man will be taken away because
of his sin, but I will hold the watchman
accountable for his blood.”

What is a Weekly World Watch?
The idea is simple. It is to look at current events and compare them to
events spoken of in the Bible. .
I hope to build up a picture of God’s hand working in the affairs of this world.
God is bringing about a day when all nations will be gathered to Jerusalem
to battle. At that time God will send His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, back to
this earth. Jesus will then establish God’s kingdom on earth.
This kingdom will last for ever. This is our hope and the reason we watch.
The following six themes will appear repeatedly in WWW:
• Israel: The continuing conflict in the Middle East and focus on Jerusalem.
• Europe: Its developing union, both political and religious.
• Russia: Its return to anti-Western ways as Bible prophecy’s “king of the
• The UK and the US: Bible prophecy’s “king of the south.”
• Moral standards in decline and violence on the increase.
• Increasing natural disasters: including earthquake, famine etc

What is in a Weekly World Watch?
Each WWW looks at a few key developments that have happened during the
past week. It is in no way meant to be exhaustive – just a look at those events
I saw as significant from a Biblical point of view.
Every WWW event slide has the following format. To reveal each block of text
just left click your mouse or press the space bar. You control when it appears.
This is straight from a news report that caught my
eye because it looked significant from a Biblical
perspective, usually that of prophecy.
The source of the headline and the date are included.
This is the reporter’s description of the event. It is always a direct
quotation from the news report and reflects the understanding of the
reporter and editors.
This is my comment on why the event is interesting to a Bible student.
COMMENT The intention of the WWW is to offer brief Biblical perspectives without
going into detail. If more detail is desired, please e-mail me:
([email protected]). Please note that these are personal
thoughts and the aim is purely to stimulate Bible study.
This is normally one verse which backs up why the event that has occurred
is interesting from a Biblical perspective. Please read in its context.
Unless stated otherwise, all quotes are from the King James Version.

Paris attacks: Millions rally for unity in France
BBC, January 11, 2015
More than three million people have taken part in unity marches across France after 17
people died during three days of deadly attacks in Paris. Up to 1.6m are estimated to
have taken to the streets of the French capital. More than 40 world leaders joined the
start of the Paris march, linking arms in an act of solidarity. The marchers wanted to
demonstrate unity after the attacks on satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, police officers,
and a kosher supermarket. The French government said the rally turnout was the
highest on record. World leaders, including British Prime Minister David Cameron,
German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu,
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, EU
President Donald Tusk, and Jordan's King Abdullah II joined the beginning of the Paris
march. Marchers chanted "liberte" ("freedom") / "Charlie” in reference to Charlie Hebdo
COMMENT The world has seen some terrible terrorist acts. 9/11, the tube bombing in London, the
Madrid bombing of a train. But something about this attack in France galvanised world
leaders to come together, link arms and join in a cry of FREEDOM in the streets of
Paris. What caused 40 world leaders to come together? To understand the world
reaction is to understand the significance of France. The Franks were a barbarian tribe
who overran what we now know as France. Franks means Free or Freemen. They
loved “liberty” (personal freedom) and believed passionately in the rights of man. It was
this spirit that brought about the French revolution with the cry of LIBERTY (freedom).
The French revolutionaries drew up the Declaration of the Rights of Man in 1789. From
this eventually came the Human Rights Act of Europe. The Bible talks of all this in
Revelation 16. The froglike (French) spirit of liberty actually brings about Armageddon!
And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the
mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils,
working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth.
The 3 unclean spirits are Liberty,

Jewish Agency:15,000 Jews to leave
France for Israel
Daily Telegraph, January 13, 2015
A record 15,000 French Jews could emigrate to Israel this year amid fears of rising
anti-Semitism in Europe, according to the official body overseeing migration to the
Jewish state. The figure – double the number who left France for Israel last year – has
been forecast by Natan Sharansky, head of the Jewish Agency, following last Friday's
deadly attack on a kosher supermarket in Paris by a French jihadist, which left four
Jewish citizens dead. The attack prompted an appeal to French Jews by Benjamin
Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, who told them they would be made welcome if
they wished to move to Israel. Jewish Agency statistics projected that the number of
French Jews preparing to make aliyah (emigration) to Israel was on course to reach
record levels of around 10,000 even before last week's attack. Some 7,000 French
immigrants arrived in Israel in 2014, more than twice the 3,300 who came in 2013.
COMMENT The attacks on the Kosher supermarket were hardly mentioned in comparison to the
attacks on Charlie Hebdo. The difference between to two attacks is huge. The satirical
magazine insults all religions. It is poisonous against Jew, Muslim and Christian. It is a
godless, immoral and sick publication. Millions of people now declare Je Suis Charlie. I
am Charlie – in other words we stand with these godless people. But the Jews killed in
cold blood were different. These were people who were killed not for insulting others
but for purely being a Jew. That was the difference. How many in France held up
posters saying “"Je Suis Juif" ("I Am Jewish")? Not many! It was interesting that the
Turkish president said that Netanyahu should not have gone to France as he had blood
on his hands following the Gaza conflict. Turkey is Togarmah in the Bible and actually
invades Israel with Russia. We see the world turning against the Jews.
Yea, many people and strong nations shall come to seek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem,…In
those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations,
even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard
that God is with you. This is in the kingdom when the Jew is no longer hated. (Zechariah 8:22-23)
Hezbollah will invade Israel in next Middle East war
Washington Free Beacon, January 15, 2015
In the next war with Hezbollah, the Lebanese-based militia will likely attempt sending
large ground forces across the border to seize villages inside Israel, according to Brig.
Gen. Itai Brun, the outgoing head of Israel’s Military Intelligence research division.
In an interview with the newspaper Israel Hayom, Brun said that Hezbollah would also
likely carry out pinpoint terrorist attacks on cities in northern Israel, like Nahariya, a
seaside city of 50,000 population six miles south of the border. However, Hezollah’s
main effort will be the firing of 1,000 rockets a day into Israel, more than twice the
average fired during the month-long Israel-Hezbollah war in 2006. Brun said the rockets
would target strategic facilities. The militia’s arsenal is believed to contain well over
100,000 rockets. Unlike the 2006 conflict, Hezbollah now has thousands of rockets that
are capable of hitting almost anywhere in Israel, said Brun.
COMMENT Hezbollah did not take part in the Gaza war of 2014. But according to the Israeli military
intelligence official quoted in the article above in the next conflict Hezbollah will take
part. He believes they will fire 1000’s of powerful rockets and also invade Israel itself.
As we have mentioned there is an initial war between Israel and it’s neighbours
(Hamas, Hezbollah, Syria etc) which concludes with the total destruction of Damascus
and the removal of the thorns in Israel’s side ie Israel’s surrounding enemies. There are
a number of references to Israel removing the “pricking briers” that surround them. This
happens BEFORE Russia invades. However….Israel (especially northern Israel) is
greatly weakened by this initial war. Israel wins but is left exhausted.
It is into this vacuum that the outer ring of nations (Russia, Iran, Turkey etc) descend.
I am against you, Sidon [near Tyre], and among you I will display my glory. You will know that I
am the Lord, when I inflict punishment on you and within you am proved to be holy. I will send a
plague upon you and make blood flow in your streets. The slain will fall within you, with the sword
against you on every side. Then you will know that I am the Lord. “‘No longer will the people of
(Ezekiel 28:22-24)
Israel have malicious neighbors who are painful briers and sharp thorns.
Gorbachev: Crisis in Ukraine could trigger
nuclear war
Daily Telegraph, January 11, 2015
Mikhail Gorbachev, the former Soviet leader, has warned that the world is at risk of a
“nuclear war” because of the tensions between Russia and the West over Ukraine.
In an interview with the German magazine Spiegel, Mr Gorbachev said that if either
side lost its nerve in the current stand-off, it could lead to nuclear war, and spoke of
his fears that the world “will not survive the next few years”.
“I actually see all the signs of a new Cold War,” Mr Gorbachev said. “It could all blow
up at any moment if we don’t take action. The loss of confidence is catastrophic.
Moscow does not believe the West, and the West does not believe Moscow.”
Asked if he thought the situation could lead to a war, Mr Gorbachev said: “Don’t even
think of it. Such a war today would probably lead inevitably to nuclear war. But the
statements and propaganda on both sides make me fear the worst. If anyone loses
their nerve in this charged atmosphere, we will not survive the next few years.”
COMMENT The 83-year-old ex leader of the USSR has spoken out about the current stand-off
between Russia and the West before. Last year he used a speech in Berlin on the 25th
anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall to warn: “The world is on the brink of a new
Cold War”. Gorbachev has been critical of his successor, Vladimir Putin, accusing him
in a recent book of overconfidence and believing himself to be “second only to God”.
Notice that he says “it could all blow up at any moment”. This is so true. The whole
world is stood on the edge of a precipice. The time is fast approaching when the whole
world will be judged. The time of trouble such as never was will be unparalleled in all
history. The world will be shaken like a drunkard, fire will sweep the earth and
hailstones weighing 75 pounds will fall from heaven. Let us prepare spiritually now…
every island disappeared, and all the mountains were leveled. There was a terrible hailstorm, and
hailstones weighing as much as seventy-five pounds fell from the sky onto the people below. They
cursed God because of the terrible plague of the hailstorm.

Russia to step up combat capabilities in Crimea
Reuters, January 13, 2015
Russia's top general said on Tuesday he would beef up combat capabilities this year in
Crimea, the Arctic and the country's westernmost Kaliningrad region that borders two
NATO states. The remarks by General Valery Gerasimov, chief of the General Staff of
the Armed Forces, are likely to deepen concern in the West over what it sees as Russia
increasingly flexing its muscles since the start of the crisis in Ukraine. NATO's top
military commander, General Philip Breedlove, said the alliance was already looking at
stepping up exercises in the Baltic Sea region in response to a rise in Russian military
manoeuvres there late last year.
"In 2015, the Defence Ministry will focus its efforts on increasing the combat capabilities
of its units and increasing combat strength in accordance with the military development
plans," Gerasimov told Russian journalists.
Russia deployed 14 military jets to Crimea last November as part of a squadron of 30
that will be stationed there, making clear it intends to strengthen its presence on the
peninsula since annexing it from Kiev last March.
Russia's "militarization" of Crimea is almost certainly going to be used to exert control
over the Black Sea. The Black Sea gives Russian ships access straight into the
Mediterranean. We know with Bible in hand that Russia comes with “many ships” when
it attacks Israel and Egypt. The taking of Crimea is a step in this direction.
The pressure is continuing to build on Putin. Oil has dropped again this week. It’s now
at $47 a barrel. Putin needs it to be at $105 to balance the books. As we reported last
week Putin may actually spark conflict to bring the price back up again…
Then at the time of the end, the king of the south will attack the king of the north. The king of the
north will storm out with chariots, charioteers, and a vast navy. He will invade various lands and
sweep through them like a flood. He will enter the glorious land of Israel, and many nations will fall
(Daniel 11:40-41)
Somewhere between the Holocaust and
2015 it became OK to blame Jews again
Daily Telegraph, January 15, 2015
When I heard the news that four Jews had been murdered last week on European soil
by an Islamist gun-toting terrorist, my blood ran cold; my hands started sweating.
Dazed, I found myself in the work toilets shedding a silent tear. And then I realised why I
needed to be alone: I felt scared. For the first time in my life, as a British Jew, 70 years
on from the liberation of Auschwitz, I felt anxious and bewildered at how this assault
had happened just across the Channel. While I was stunned and enraged by the
murders of the Charlie Hebdo cartoonists and writers – both as a journalist and citizen –
it was the murder of my fellow Jews that left me feeling personally exposed. I’m not
alone in this newfound unease. A startling YouGov survey published yesterday has
found that more than half of British Jews fear the community may have no long-term
future in Europe; over half say they have witnessed more anti-Semitism in the past two
years than they have ever seen before and 77 per cent have observed anti-Semitism
disguised as a political comment about Israel.
COMMENT Experts say European Jews have not felt this threatened since World War II, when
some 6 million Jews were murdered in the Nazi Holocaust. Researchers at Tel Aviv
University monitoring anti-Semitism have reported a chilling increase in attacks in
Europe over the past decade, including deadly shootings in Toulouse, France, in 2012
and Brussels last year. In recent years, France has had the highest number of incidents
of any single country. Amazingly more than half of British Jewish people fear Jews have
no future in the UK, according to a new study. We are reminded of the prophecy in
Deuteronomy that says the Jews in the nations they are scattered into will live in fear…
And the LORD shall scatter thee among all people… And among these nations shalt thou find no
ease, neither shall the sole of thy foot have rest: but the LORD shall give thee there a trembling
heart, and failing of eyes, and sorrow of mind: And thy life shall hang in doubt before thee; and
thou shalt fear day and night, and shalt have none assurance of thy life: (Deuteronomy 28:64-66)
